美国六十年代最知名的电视电影剧作家与小说家，曾经获得许多国际知名的奖项得主，如：奥斯卡奖、东尼奖及爱伦坡悬疑小说奖。他的小说作品成绩更是辉煌，每一本都曾荣登纽约时报最佳畅销书排行榜第一名，小说至今已在全球发行超过180个国家，被翻译成51种语言，总销售量超过两亿八千万册，堪称目前世界上作品销售成绩最可观的作家之一。目前虽然高龄八十六岁但仍在创作中(?)，于2004年推出新作「Are You Afraid of the Dark？」。
虽然是大师，但是非常不受台湾出版商的重视，以前只有皇冠，小知堂，时报与高宝曾经零星出版过他的小说，自从着作权法实施以后，几乎在国内就没有出版过他的着作了，今年公共电视曾经播出「如果还有明天」的迷你影集，不慎错过，怅甚！
