于1927年出生于纽约，在纽泽西长大，毕业于康乃狄克的Chesire学院，于二次大战时入伍海军，到过南太平洋服役。他的读者遍布全球，其 中廿多部作 品就被40个国家翻成32种语言，售出超过二亿本。其中最为世人熟知的是「伯恩三部曲」，包括The Bourne Identity(1980)，The Bourne Supremacy(1986)和The Bourne Ultimatum(1990)。死亡拼图与地狱儿女其实也是经典之作，让人无法释手。2001年3月12日因心脏病突发逝世，享年73岁。

奇怪的是，这么出名出色的作家，在台湾非常不受重视，仅有皇冠出版社曾经翻译过他的部分小说，台湾实施着作权法之后，就很难在市面上看得到了！
